A goal seven minutes from time condemned the Peacocks to an early departure from this season’s Buildbase FA Trophy as they lost 3-2 at Weston -super-Mare this afternoon.

The defeat was especially disappointing given the fact that Town were leading 1-0 at the break and the better side, Jake Wannell heading in Dan Sullivan’s corner after 22 minutes for the opening goal. Jordan Bastin’s corner came off Gethyn Hill for Weston’s equaliser four minutes into the second half before the Peacocks were reduced to ten men after 65 minutes when Hill was sent off after his second yellow card. Despite the disadvantage Wannell restored the visitor’s lead on 69 minutes, firing past Max Harris for his second goal of the game after his initial header had been cleared off the line. Scott Laird’s cross-shot took a deflection off Josh Thomas to again bring the sides level three minutes later before Town’s exit was confirmed seven minutes from time when Laird arrowed home a 20 yard strike past Will Buse.
