The Peacocks will finally hope to beat both the weather and the opposition when they welcome Chippenham Town to Wordsworth Drive in the Vanarama National League South tomorrow evening (20th February), ko 7.45pm.

Recent deluges have resulted in Town having their last two home games postponed due to a waterlogged pitch so they will be hoping it will be third time lucky tomorrow when they attempt to return to duty for the first time since a 6-0 drubbing at St Albans City ten days previously. However some areas of the pitch remain an issue following 19mm of rain since Saturday night so it is planned to hold a pitch inspection at lunchtime tomorrow.

If the game gets the green light, the need for a win is plain, with the Peacocks having not tasted victory for 11 games since beating Farnborough in December and without a goal in their last three. This leaves them sitting four points clear of Welling United who occupy 21st place having played two games more, so with the gap diminishing recently the fillip of three points would be massively important for Town.

Chippenham travel to Somerset boosted by two good results on the road in the past week after recording a 1-0 win at Dartford last Tuesday which they followed up with a 2-2 draw at Slough Town over the weekend, improving the month of February for the Bluebirds after they had suffered two defeats earlier in the month to Tonbridge Angels and Braintree Town. The Wiltshire side sit in 15th spot with five away wins in the league this season from 16 matches.

The Peacocks welcome back Ollie Chamberlain, Zac Smith and skipper Nick Grimes to the squad tomorrow after all three missed the St Albans game.

Last meeting: it proved a thrilling game when the sides met at Hardenhuish Park in September. The home side were two up inside the opening half hour through goals from Nat Williams and an Ollie Chamberlian own goal. Nat Jarvis pulled one back for the Peacocks after the break but when Luke Spokes added a third for the Bluebirds that seemed to settle it. However Ross Stearn reduced the arrears with four minutes left before Chamberlain’s strike earnt a point deep into stoppage time. Relive the match highlights HERE
