There’s another long trip for the Peacocks tomorrow (10th December) when they travel to Welling United in the National League South, ko 3.00pm.

The Kent side provided Town’s first opposition in the National League back in August and left the Cygnet Health Care Stadium with a point following a 0-0 draw. Four months on and the clubs sit one place apart, with the Peacocks in 16th and Welling four points clear in 15th but having played four more fixtures. The Wings made a solid start to the season, going six games unbeaten from the end of August until mid-October but they are now without a win in six League games since the start of November, having secured just one point from their last three home matches, the latest being a 2-1 reverse to Farnborough on Tuesday evening.

Along with Worthing, Welling are the draw specialists in the division with eight so far, one ahead of both Oxford City and the Peacocks who will be eager to improve their record on the road where they have won just the once. Another tight game is in the offing then for Town who have Jake Wannell in line to start his first League game for two months after coming through the midweek Somerset Premier Cup tie at Yeovil unscathed. Jay Foulston, Nat Jarvis and Lee Lucas all return after being rested on Tuesday. Head of Football Rob Dray remarked:” As we are finding out in this League, away games are even more difficult than last year. Welling, being full time, will be a huge test. I always thought they would be better as the season gets going, that’s how being full time works, so another tough day in store. However we’ve found a rhythm at the moment and having Jake back will be a massive bonus for us on and off the pitch.”
