The Peacocks begin a run of four successive home games which will go a long way to defining their season beginning with the visit of Merthyr Town to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow evening (8th March), ko 7.45pm.

The meeting with Merthyr will be followed by games against promotion rivals Hayes & Yeading United and Chesham United on successive weekends before Town play the first leg of the Southern League Challenge Cup Final against Royston Town. Before any thoughts can be directed towards those matches, the Peacocks have the job of taking on the Martyrs for the second time in a month after two goals from Ross Stearn and an own goal secured a 3-0 win in Wales at the start of February. Following that result, Merthyr also lost their next three games before gaining their first League win since October and only their third of the campaign on Saturday with a 3-1 victory at Dorchester. The three points lifted them off the bottom of the table but with only ten fixtures remaining the pressure is very much on to avoid finishing in the relegation zone so they will have every incentive to make it two wins on the bounce tomorrow.

Saturday’s win at Salisbury made it 13 wins from 14 Southern League games for Town to strengthen their position in fourth but they could rise to third with a win tomorrow in what is shaping up to be the most exciting run-in for a number of years. Head of Football Rob Dray names an unchanged squad from the weekend with the addition of recent returnee Jamie Short. The Town boss commented:” It was important we bounced back on Saturday from the previous weekend, and we now have three home League games on the spin which we must use to our advantage. Merthyr had a good result at the weekend, and although we won, I thought they were pretty good at their place so again we need to apply ourselves properly to maintain our excellent home record.”

A reminder that all NHS staff are able to gain admission to tomorrow’s game for just £1. NHS workers who would like to attend just need to show their NHS badge (physical or digital) at the turnstile.

Admission is payable by card or cash at the turnstile only, priced at £10 for Adults, £8 for Concessions and £5 for Juniors (14-17 years). Under 14’s are free on condition they are accompanied by an adult. Unaccompanied Under 14’s will not be admitted.
