The finishing line is in sight for the Peacocks in their inaugural season at Vanarama National League South level with four games to go starting with the visit of Hungerford Town to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow evening (18th April), ko 7.45pm.

Saturday’s setback at Dulwich Hamlet halted a run of four consecutive victories for Town but despite that defeat they are now completely safe from relegation, sitting comfortably in 15th position. The same scenario does not apply to tomorrow’s opponents who lie one place off the bottom of the table ten points adrift of safety and a defeat to the Peacocks would confirm relegation for the Berkshire side. Realistically the Crusaders require three points from the game to give them any hope of escaping the drop, but they come into tomorrow’s meeting on the back of a 5-1 thumping at Chelmsford City at the weekend, a third defeat in four for the Berkshire side having also lost at Hampton & Richmond Borough and Concord Rangers in the past fortnight whilst drawing with Havant & Waterlooville.

Tomorrow’s game gives the Peacocks the chance of a third League double after they won 1-0 in the return fixture in early September. With two more home games to follow in the next week against Worthing and Weymouth, Town will want to sign off their season in positive fashion in front of their own supporters before they travel to Chelmsford for the last game of the campaign. Skipper Nick Grimes faces a fitness test before tomorrow’s match after going off injured at Dulwich, otherwise the squad remains unchanged with Lee Lucas serving the final game of his four match suspension.
