It’s a crucial weekend for the Peacocks as they welcome Southern League Premier South leaders Hayes & Yeading United to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow afternoon (12th March), ko 3.00pm.

Town have nine League fixtures remaining to realise their promotion ambitions, eight of which are against the two sides above them and the six immediately beneath them in the table, all of whom are battling for at least a play-off place. Therefore the stakes couldn’t be higher beginning with the visit of the West London side tomorrow, with the home side knowing that a win coupled with Metropolitan Police failing to beat Weston-super-Mare in another vital game would see the Peacocks rise to the top of the tree.

That will be far easier said than done against a talented Hayes outfit who began the campaign with seven straight wins including a 2-1 victory over Town at the end of August, Gethyn Hill cancelling out Keano Robinson’s opener with Moses Emmanuel grabbing the winner for the hosts in the second half. Emmanuel leads the division goalscoring charts with 27 to his name and with fellow striker Francis Amartey also up there with 19 the Peacocks’ defence will have their work cut out tomorrow. Hayes will also have the incentive of bouncing back from last weekend’s 1-0 home defeat to Walton Casuals which saw the Surrey side claim the League double to end a run of nine games unbeaten for the leaders.

Town name an unchanged squad from Tuesday’s last gasp win over Merthyr although centre half Jake Wannell will have a late fitness test after going off in midweek. Head of Football Rob Dray is looking forward to the afternoon, remarking:” It’s a massive game in the context of where we are at in the season, and I really hope the football fans of Taunton come out in force and support us. After Tuesday’s game we know we have to be much better against one of the biggest sides in the division but we haven’t won 14 games out of the last 15 by chance and we’ll give it a really good go tomorrow.”

Despite today’s rain there are no anticipated problems with the pitch.
