There is no rest for the Peacocks after yesterday’s trip to St Albans as they prepare to welcome Chippenham Town to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow afternoon (29th August), ko 3.00pm.

The goalless draw at Clarence Park made it four points from their last two games for Town as they get used to their new surroundings in the National League South. With home advantage they will be aiming to secure their second victory of the campaign at the Cygnet to follow last weekend’s 2-1 success against Dartford, but they will again have a difficult test before them against a Bluebirds side which reached the Play-Offs last season after finishing in 7th spot, their highest ever position in the National League.

After beginning this campaign with a 3-0 defeat at title favourites Ebbsfleet United, Chippenham have gone three games unbeaten after two goalless draws away at Worthing and home to Chelmsford City in a rearranged game before gaining their first win of the season yesterday, beating Hungerford Town 1-0 at Hardenhuish Park. They lie one place below the Peacocks in 19th spot but having played one game less due to fixture postponements after their player Pablo Martinez suffered a cardiac arrest during the first meeting with Chelmsford two weeks ago. We all hope Pablo is well on the road to recovery.

It’s now only three goals conceded in five games for the Peacocks which consists of a penalty, an own goal and a defensive gift. Things are looking solid then at the back although at the other end of the pitch Town have failed to score in four of their five games but will have strikers Nick McCootie and Dave Sims-Burgess returning to the fold tomorrow after both missed the St Albans match. Head of Football Rob Dray remarked:” There is no respite at this level, and you need to meet your standards for every game. We need to maintain the momentum after going the last two games unbeaten, but we know Chippenham are another side who are experienced in this league, and we will have to be at our best to get a result. Our home form has been fantastic though since the start of last season and with hopefully a large Bank Holiday crowd supporting us we can keep the ball rolling.”
