The Peacocks are in Somerset Premier Cup action tomorrow evening (5th October) when they welcome Ashton & Backwell United to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium, ko 7.45pm.

The 1st Round tie is the first meeting between the sides in four years, the last occasion also being in the same competition when a Shaun Anthony goal saw Town through in October 2017. Ashton & Backwell were promoted to the Western League Premier Division for this season following the summer reorganization at Steps 4 to 6, the first time that the club had reached this level in their current guise although they were formerly there up to 2005 when they played as just Backwell United before a merger with Ashton Boys five years later.

The Stags currently lie in 18th position in the Premier, one place off the bottom of the table, having secured seven points from their ten fixtures so far. After losing their first six competitive matches this season, they have staged something of a revival, having won four of their last six games including the last two, an FA Vase victory at Brislington followed by Saturday’s 4-0 beating of Bridport. They have also recently appointed new manager Tony Beecham who made a few appearances for Town in the 2006-07 campaign.

The Peacocks will be looking for their third win on the spin after overcoming Hartley Wintney on Saturday although Head of Football Rob Dray will be making changes for the tie, taking the opportunity to rest some players and give game time to those who have been on the bench recently whilst also taking a look at some students from our development partner Bridgwater & Taunton College, four of whom will be in the squad for tomorrow. The Town boss said:” It’s great to have this game to follow on from the weekend and to keep everyone fresh. We will still have a strong side out tomorrow as we want to go as far in the competition as we can.”

There are no advance ticket sales online for this game. Admission has been reduced to half price and payment is by card or cash on the turnstile only. Prices are £5 Adults, £4 Concessions, £2 Juniors (14-17 years) and Under 14’s free accompanied by an adult.
