There are two big games coming up for the Peacocks over the Christmas period against Somerset rivals and Vanarama National League South leaders Yeovil Town starting with the trip to Huish Park tomorrow (26th December), ko 3.00pm.

Although the sides have met on numerous occasions over the years in cup competitions, tomorrow will be the first ever meeting between the senior sides in a competitive league fixture. The festive double header will be a severe test of Taunton’s credentials against a team eight points clear at the top of the table, having suffered just the one loss in their past 17 league outings. That defeat at Welling United towards the end of November is one of only three the Glovers have experienced all season, with the other two coming during August as they adapted to life in a lower division following their relegation last season from the main National League. Their current status on the summit though makes them firm favourites to make a quick return to the highest echelon of non-league football.

Despite snatching a point with a stoppage time equaliser against Tonbridge Angels on Saturday, the Peacocks dropped a place to 17th in the table although they have sufficient games in hand to climb to mid-table safety. More of that fighting spirit will be required tomorrow against a Yeovil team likely to include former centre half Jake Wannell although Jay Foulston who also recently moved to Huish Park is ineligible to play in either game, as is striker Malachi Linton for Taunton against his parent club. Head of Football Rob Dray commented:” I was delighted with our tenacity to recover from conceding such a late goal on Saturday, but I expect nothing less from this group of players. Similar commitment to the cause will be needed when we take on a Yeovil side flying high at the top, it is a tough proposition, but we are looking forward to it.”
