The Peacocks begin a demanding programme of 15 Vanarama National League South games in the final six weeks of the season when they travel to Worthing tomorrow afternoon (9th March), ko 3.00pm.

The trip to the south coast will provide Town with a major challenge as they seek to earn sufficient points to remain at Step 2. Last Saturday’s defeat to Truro City left them without a victory in 13 league outings to keep them in 21st place and three points from safety, and it will take a concerted effort to turn around current fortunes against a Worthing side looking in good shape to claim a play-off place come the end of April. They currently lie in 3rd spot and approach the match tomorrow in good spirits after claiming a 1-0 win at promotion rivals Chelmsford City on Monday evening, bouncing back after suffering consecutive defeats to Welling United and Braintree Town.

The Rebels have actually won more games on their travels this campaign, with 11 coming on the road whilst they have secured nine victories at Woodside Road where the Peacocks picked up a point last season thanks to a Dave Sims-Burgess goal earning a 1-1 draw. A similar result tomorrow would be just the job, but first Town will need to deny a side who possess the division’s top scorers both collectively and individually. As a team they have netted 78 times which includes 33 goals for striker Ollie Pearce, form which has seen him named in the England C side to play Wales later this month. Defensively then the Peacocks will need to be on top form and hope to improve on their own lack of recent goals to give them a chance of securing that much needed win.

Captain Nick Grimes returns after his one game suspension to an otherwise unchanged squad. Head of Football Rob Dray commented:” A relentless week starts tomorrow. Nothing changes from what we needed to do last week, the lads are fighting game in, game out and need everyone’s support for the next six weeks.”
