The Peacocks take a break from the stresses and strains of National League football when they welcome Bridgwater United to Wordsworth Drive in the Quarter Final of the UES Somerset Premier Cup tomorrow evening (30th January), ko 7.45pm.

It promises to be an intriguing evening, with Town having not won in eight League outings coming up against a Robins’ side three levels down the non-league ladder but sitting third in the Western League Premier Division. They have bounced back from two defeats from three games over the Christmas period to earn a vital win at title rivals Falmouth Town before gaining a resounding 7-1 victory at Oldland Abbotonians on Saturday. The Somerset Premier isn’t the only cup either that Bridgwater have their sights set on, having reached the 5th Round Proper of the FA Vase following their 2-1 win at Farnham Town ten days ago which sets them up for a home tie against Deal Town a week on Saturday. Apart from tackling a side in buoyant mood and seeking to cause an upset, Town will also need to be mindful of the Robins’ goal threat, with their front line boasting striker Jack Thorne with 26 goals to his name in all competitions this season, putting him third in the Western League scoring charts.

The Peacocks have made somewhat heavy weather of reaching this stage of the Premier Cup following two home ties, labouring through on penalties in the previous round against Western Leaguers Street after overcoming Portishead Town in the opening round. In contrast Bridgwater have been on the road for all their games in this season’s competition, tomorrow’s encounter being preceded by 3-1 and 3-0 wins at Middlezoy Rovers and Paulton Rovers respectively.

Town name the same squad which fought out a 2-2 draw with Aveley at the weekend, with skipper Nick Grimes still injured. Head of Football Rob Dray remarked:” It’s a local derby and the first time we have played Bridgwater in a competitive game for some while so we will have to be at our best. The fans were superb on Saturday, and we need more of that tomorrow.”
