The Peacocks recorded their 31st consecutive Evo-Stik League game unbeaten when they romped to a 5-0 victory at Winchester City yesterday evening (17th April).

It was an excellent display from Town who were close to scoring even more as the hosts hardly had a look in. Craig Veal got the ball rolling after three minutes, picking his spot with a lovely finish after a neat lay-off from Joel Randall. Matt Wright doubled the lead on 16 minutes with another superb goal, smashing home a left foot volley after Ollie Chamberlain had headed down Veal’s cross before Ryan Brett saw his goal chalked out just before the break. City keeper Ryan Pryce made a hash of controlling a back pass and Veal pounced to make it 3-0 after 51 minutes before Wright scored twice in five minutes to complete his hat trick. He converted the rebound inside the right-hand post on 57 minutes after his header had come back off the crossbar from a Nuno Felix cross and then sidefooted home on 62 minutes, Veal unselfishly setting him up after robbing a defender. Wright’s header looked to have crossed the line but wasn’t given as Winchester ended the game with ten men after Josh Hadfield was sent off for a last man challenge on Veal.

Reaction | Manager Leigh Robinson remarked: “A quite brilliant performance tonight and nice to get some goals on the board. These lads never cease to amaze. Ben Adelsbury unfortunately had to drop out during the day meaning we had three big players missing, we had poor preparation due to some players arriving late, everyone had a really heavy night out on Saturday celebrating the title, and they come out in a midweek away game and put in a performance like that. Incredible desire shown to perform game in, game out.”
