The Peacocks required a penalty shoot-out for the second time this season to progress in the UES Somerset Premier Cup after scraping past Bridgwater United in the Quarter Final this evening. The tie had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with the Western League side leading at the break despite the hosts having the clearer opportunities. The goal came in the 27th minute when a misplaced pass allowed Ben Griffith to advance and slot past Dan Lavercombe before Ross Stearn’s free kick came off the wall to strike the crossbar for Taunton just before the break. The quality of the game deteriorated further in the second half, with Town eventually drawing level on 73 minutes when Robins’ keeper Isaac Finch flapped at a Lloyd James corner, and it ended up in the net. With the scores level, the game went straight to penalties, with Lavercombe saving Morgan Williams’ spot kick to send the Peacocks through 5-4.
