The Peacocks suffered late heartache for the second successive game as two goals during added time saw them lose 3-2 to Chelmsford City in the Vanarama National League South this afternoon. Town had appeared on course for an upset for the vast majority of the contest, grabbing the lead after just five minutes when Zac Bell fired home from Lloyd James’ centre before doubling their advantage after 20 minutes with skipper Nick Grimes shooting home via the underside of the crossbar after a James corner had been flicked on.

Chelmsford reduced the arrears on 35 minutes through Jermaine Francis who picked out the corner from 15 yards after a clearance fell to him but they were lucky not to fall further behind when Town’s Ross Stearn hit the post after the break. With the Peacocks looking as though they were going to claim three valuable points in their relegation fight, the outlook changed completely during five minutes of added time. Samir Carruthers’ ball forward was picked up by Ruff whose strike from the edge of the box flew over Lloyd Irish for the equaliser two minutes into added time before a late corner three minutes later completed the turnaround, Ruff slotting home from close range to leave Town shellshocked and compound their worries near the bottom of the table.
