We can announce that Luke Spokes has left the club and signed a contract with League Two side Grimsby Town. The talented midfielder joined us from Yate Town in January and has been in excellent form during our pre-season friendlies so whilst we will miss him playing for the Peacocks this season we are naturally delighted for him to be given this opportunity with the Mariners, managed by Ian Holloway.

Luke told tauntontown.com:” I want to say a big thankyou to Taunton, a fantastic club with great fans. I will miss everything about you! This opportunity was something I’ve dreamed of and can’t wait to get started. I would also like to thank in particular Rob, Matt and Meaks for believing in me and helping me like they did. Finally, I will miss the lads, Rob has put a great group together and I will always follow the club UTP!”

Head of Football Rob Dray added:” We’re thrilled for Spokesy to get a professional contract at Grimsby. His dedication and what he did away from the club during lockdown shows how things can work out for young players. When we initially came back to training and were doing measuring in the first sessions his stats were at elite player level. He is a great lad and will be sorely missed around the squad, but again it shows how as a club for young players we are a great medium for pushing them on to better standards. We wish him well.”

We would like to wish Luke future success and the best of luck at Grimsby Town.
