The Peacocks dipped to a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Aveley in their opening away game of the Vanarama National League South season this afternoon

Town were below par all over the pitch, going behind after 19 minutes when Cameron Evans was adjudged to have fouled Matt Rush, and Siju Odelusi converted the penalty. Rush then fired against the post before the Peacocks drew level on 41 minutes when Aveley keeper Jonathan North was unable to keep out Malachi Linton’s shot. The hosts quickly regained the lead a minute before the break when Odelusi fired home from inside the box, with the second half failing to show an improvement for the visitors. Charlie Hughes added a third after 69 minutes before Odelusi secured his hat trick when he curled home a free kick four minutes into stoppage time to conclude a grim afternoon.
