A seven goal BetVictor Southern League thriller at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium saw the Peacocks come out on top 4-3 against Metropolitan Police this afternoon (14th December).

It was Town’s first win over the Police at the fourth attempt and they were first to break the stalemate on the quarter hour when Dan Sullivan’s cross was touched in by Jamie Price with Andrew Neal there to make sure the ball had crossed the line but the Blues were back on terms four minutes later when Alex Fisher’s corner was flicked on by Louis Birch for Lewis Beale to net with a close range header. Back came the Peacocks who regained the advantage after 24 minutes after Zac Smith’s quickly taken free kick found Andrew Neal who made space to fire past Rhys Forster from just inside the box. Beale advanced down the right to cross for Jack Mazzone to convert and bring the teams level again three minutes into first half stoppage time before two second half goals gave the Peacocks some breathing space. Matt Wright steered home on 55 minutes after a handball on the line had kept an effort out, then a fine move involving Jamie Short and Wright ended with Neal slotting in his second strike of the afternoon eight minutes later. Mazzone’s free kick gave his side hope with six minutes left on the clock before the Police double scorer received a second yellow and was sent off as Town held on to claim victory and rise to fourth in the table.
