There will be no Emirates FA Cup run for the Peacocks this season after they lost 2-1 to Merthyr Town at Wordsworth Drive this evening. And the hosts can have no complaints following a poor performance against the Southern League outfit who fully deserved to progress.

The visitors took the lead in the 2nd Round Qualifying replay after 25 minutes when Aneurin Livermore’s cross was converted at the far post by Olly Mehew before Ross Stearn had a reply disallowed for offside just before the break. It failed to improve after the break when the Martyrs doubled their lead on 64 minutes, countering swiftly down the right for Ricardo Rees to deliver into the box and Mehew to slot home at the back post. The Peacocks huffed and puffed before reducing the deficit five minutes into stoppage time when Jay Foulston’s cross was headed home by Nick McCootie but it was far too little too late as Merthyr won through to host Sheppey United in the next round.
