We are delighted to welcome new signing Ioan Richards to the club.

The 20 year old defender featured for the Peacocks in Tuesday’s narrow defeat to Yeovil Town and has now put pen to paper ahead of the new Southern League season. Ioan told tauntontown.com:” I’m really happy to have signed for Taunton who I’ve heard great things about. They are always looking to progress which suits my ambitions so I’m looking forward to being involved this season and pushing on to see what we can achieve.”

Richards was previously on a two year scholarship at Cheltenham Town, having been with Port Talbot Town and Newport County earlier in his career. He suffered two ankle injuries during his first year at Cheltenham though and was then loaned out to Slimbridge during his second year in 2018-19. Following his release from Cheltenham, he joined National League North club Gloucester City for 2019-20 where he stayed until the campaign was terminated and then went on to sign for Redditch United last season.

Head of Football Rob Dray said:” Ioan probably had the shortest trial ever after we’ve seen him in one training session and the Yeovil game. He has undoubted pedigree though, great stature and an attitude to defend. Most importantly he wants to play and get better and is still just 20 years old, so I’m pleased to get his signing across the line.”
