We are delighted to welcome Nick McCootie back to the club following his arrival from Weston-super-Mare. The 33 year old striker was originally with the Peacocks from the latter part of the 2008-09 season and remained at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium until departing for Bridgwater in December 2009. During his first stint with us he scored 6 goals from 16 full and 6 sub appearances.

Nick told tauntontown.com:” I’m happy to be signing on with Taunton for this season. It’s been a long time coming. I’ve known Drayer, the staff and players for a long time so I know the transition will be easy. I’m looking forward to playing in the National League South again, it’s a competitive league but believe we have the squad and resources to compete and I’m excited to see where we end up. Can’t wait to get started.”

Powerful forward McCootie has a wealth of experience at a higher level. After leaving Bridgwater he enjoyed successful spells at Cinderford and Paulton Rovers before linking up with Bath City in the early part of the 2014-15 season.  He continued his presence in the National League South when he signed for Chippenham Town in January 2018 until moving to Weston in the summer of 2019.

Head of Football Rob Dray remarked:” We wanted experience, size, and a great lad, and we have all three with Pops. We have known each other for years now and always wanted to get him on my team so all in all a great signing for us.”

McCootie goes straight into the squad for this evening’s opening friendly at Bitton.
