The Peacocks made a great start to their Southern League campaign with a conclusive 4-1 victory at Wimborne Town this afternoon (14th August).
The hosts actually took the lead on 22 minutes when Lewis Beale scored into an empty net after Lloyd Irish had crashed into another Wimborne player trying to clear. The Peacocks though drew level on 39 minutes when Jared Lewington headed in at the back post from Jay Foulston’s corner. The game then swung Town’s way when Toby Holmes was pulled down inside the box well into first half stoppage time and the former Magpies striker despatched the penalty with ease. The Peacocks dominated the second half, having numerous opportunities before Lewington made it 3-1 on 68 minutes when he steered home Joe Guest’s cross but unfortunately was injured doing so and had to be substituted. Debutant Jack Veale then made the points safe four minutes later, slotting a shot past Billy Terrell. The visitors could have added more as they eased to victory and now look forward to their first home game of the League season on Tuesday evening when Dorchester Town visit the Cygnet Health Care Stadium.
