At last! The Peacocks finally got the better of Weston-super-Mare at the 4th attempt this season after beating them 2-1 in the 3rd Round of the Southern League Challenge Cup this evening.

Town had to battle hard at the Optima Stadium to ensure progress, taking the lead after 36 minutes when Jay Foulston’s free kick was headed down by Nick Grimes and Jared Lewington volleyed home from close range. Weston soon levelled two minutes later through Prince Henry who powered forward to drive past the returning Lloyd Irish who then made a fine save to prevent the hosts edging ahead. The winner came on 71 minutes when Ross Stearn crossed from the right and after a challenge for the ball it fell for Grimes to steer over the line to secure Town’s appearance in the Quarter Final of the competition.
