The Peacocks suffered their first defeat of the year at Merthyr Town earlier this afternoon.

Ian Traylor sent Mike Davies the wrong way from the penalty spot after the keeper brought down Tom Meechan on 34 minutes and Owain Jones struck in first half injury time to hand the Martyrs a two goal advantage going into the break.

Jones added his 2nd of the afternoon 20 minutes after the restart to seal the points for the hosts and Ed Palmer grabbed a consolation goal with a trademark free kick eight minutes from time.

Speaking after the loss Rob Dray said, “Obviously we’re disappointed with the result but it shows that this league is tough, uncompromising and unpredictable. We had a great chance at one end and 60 seconds later they go down the other and get a penalty. We don’t lose everything that we are about after one game and this group have been superb for a long period of time. We’ll look to bounce back in the next match.”
