A peach of a strike from Nuno Felix earnt the Peacocks a 1-1 Evo-Stik League draw at Wimborne Town yesterday afternoon (14th April).

The result extended Town’s undefeated league run to a superb 30 games whilst also maintaining their unbeaten record away from home in all competitions this season. A header from Josh Nelmes was the closest Town came to scoring early on until they took the lead after 20 minutes, Felix drilling home a 25 yarder past Gerard Benfield following good work from Dan Sullivan on the right. Felix saw another shot saved before the hosts equalised on 29 minutes when Matty Oldring headed in Luke Burbidge’s free kick. There were few opportunities for either side for the remainder of the half and this trend continued after the break with neither keeper seriously troubled despite spells of pressure from both the hosts and the Peacocks.

Reaction | Manager Leigh Robinson said: “It was a good result in the end and I was most pleased with the fact that our levels of work rate and concentration didn’t dip despite the title already being won. We made a few changes and went with a slightly experimental ‘little’ front two as opposed to our usual ‘little and large’. Joel did really well at right wingback in only his second start in men’s football which was good to see and Shane deputised for Keith in the middle of the back three fantastically well, keeping the recently prolific Toby Holmes very quiet.”
