Tuesday evening’s friendly with Bristol City U23’s gave the opportunity to finally present some awards for the 2019-20 season which was terminated early.

Chairman Kevin Sturmey gave some background to each award:

“The Mike ‘Chopper’ Byrne Memorial Trophy for Supporter of the Year was won by Darrell Gillett who didn’t miss a game home or away that season, a brilliant achievement Darrell and thank you for your support.” The trophy was presented by the previous year’s winner Peter Taylor.

“The Ernie Price Trophy was awarded to Head of Football Rob Dray, a person who goes above and beyond in their role to keep Taunton Town Football Club moving forward. He never stops managing his part of the club seven days a week, virtually 365 days a year, and has taken the club to its highest level and nearly achieved the distinction of back to back promotions.”

“The Tom Harris Trophy for Clubman of the Year recognises people who give their time to the Club and do a fantastic job and the winners for this season are the Media Team. This group have been brilliant all through the Pandemic as they have continued to build the Taunton Town Brand. They have all worked so well together and all have attributes that complement each other. They are a credit to the club and set an incredibly high standard and all are Volunteers.”

“The Gordon Nelson Memorial Trophy which is the Chairman’s Award goes to Brian Pollard, our  Vice Chairman of the Stadium and Facilities, who has been involved for over 10 years as a Director and continues to do incredible work on virtually every day, rain or shine, and also will be seen working hard on match days with whatever needs to be completed. Without his unstinting work the club would not be where it is and in fact this person could win my award every year.”

Congratulations to all the winners!
