A well-deserved hat trick from Toby Holmes helped steer the Peacocks to a resounding 7-1 Southern League win over Beaconsfield Town at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium this afternoon.
After a nondescript opening quarter hour the game came alive on 18 minutes when Holmes caught Beaconsfield keeper Alex Tokarczyk off his line and sent a stunning effort over his head from just inside the Taunton half. Holmes grabbed his second on the stroke of half time when he got on the end of Ollie Chamberlain’s cross at the far post before the hosts added a third two minutes into the second half when Gethyn Hill headed his 12th goal of the season from Jay Foulston’s free kick. Nathan Minhas reduced the arrears with a well- placed shot on 50 minutes, with Holmes then netting from the spot on 59 minutes to complete his treble after he had been pulled down by Baboucarr Jarra. Will Buse easily saved Toby Little’s penalty at the other end after Callum Webb had been fouled before the home side added three more. Ross Staley lashed home a cracking half volley on 77 minutes, Luke Neville turned Dan Sullivan’s cross into his own net two minutes later and a great build-up ended with Staley’s cross being rifled into the net by Conor Hartley on 88 minutes to round off a fine Peacocks performance.
