An ineffectual Peacocks display saw them knocked out of the Somerset Premier Cup at the first hurdle when they lost on penalties to Ashton & Backwell United this evening (5th October)
The game had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes after a much-changed Town side had laboured against their visitors from two levels lower. A goalless first half had seen the Stags actually come closest to scoring when Jason Radnedge saw his effort deflect onto a post while the Peacocks were less than convincing in front of goal. A defensive error saw Ashton & Backwell grab a surprise lead on the hour, Radnedge collecting the ball to beat a stranded Will Buse from distance before the Peacocks drew level seven minutes from time when Toby Holmes was pushed down and scored the resultant penalty. The game went straight to spot kicks and after the first nine attempts were scored, Jack Veale’s strike hit the bar to send the Western League side through.
