A second half Owen Howe goal proved sufficient for the Peacocks as they recorded a 1-0 Pitching In Southern League win at Farnborough this afternoon (10th October).
The victory maintains Town’s unbeaten start to the season in a game which is unlikely to live long in the memory. The hosts made the brighter start before the Peacocks began to threaten, coming closest before the break when Dan Sullivan’s backheel set up Ollie Chamberlain whose shot hit the post.
Town continued to look the more likely to break the deadlock in the second half but were thwarted by several defensive blocks until the crucial goal arrived on 72 minutes when Jamie Short’s cross found Howe in the middle and his finish rolled into the corner. Borough keeper Liam Beach denied Chamberlain a second goal before Louis Dunne was sent off for the home side a minute into stoppage time after receiving his second caution. Victory for Town leaves them sitting in 6th spot in the table and sets them up for Tuesday’s big Emirates FA Cup meeting with Truro City.
