The final week of a gruelling Vanarama National League South season begins with the Peacocks welcoming Worthing to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow afternoon (22nd April), ko 3.00pm.
With Town now safe following a recent spurt of four successive victories, they will hope to get back on track after that winning sequence was ended by defeats in their last two games with the weekend loss at Dulwich Hamlet being added to by the midweek reverse to Hungerford. With playing power down to the bare bones though, it’s hardly going to be an easy task against the 6th placed West Sussex side who will confirm a place in the Play-Offs should they win tomorrow. The Rebels have regained their form following a sticky March when they suffered three defeats on the spin, but they ended the month with victory over Havant & Waterlooville and this trend has continued in April with a further three wins, a trouncing of Concord Rangers being followed by a victory over promotion rivals Braintree last weekend and then another vital three points at Farnborough in midweek.
With their final home match of the campaign coming up against Weymouth on Tuesday followed by the long trip to Chelmsford to conclude things next Saturday, the Peacocks will want to end their first year in the National League with a flourish. However they are again up against it playerwise, with Nick McCootie suspended after being sent off at Dulwich while Nat Jarvis and captain Nick Grimes are struggling with injury. On the positive side Lee Lucas returns after serving his ban for being dismissed against Ebbsfleet. Meanwhile the visitors hope to have defender Joel Colbran available but midfielder Kane Wills remains doubtful. Head of Football Rob Dray said:” It has been a long, hard season but we have done what we set out to do. We want to sign off our first year at this level with three positive results from our final three games starting tomorrow but Worthing have done superbly after being promoted and they are in great shape to make the play-offs. I’m looking for us to bounce back from Tuesday and for one last big effort to finish as high as possible.”
Tomorrow will see the End of Season Awards Presentation for Taunton Youth Under 12’s and Under 13’s with the main awards ceremony taking place on the pitch at half time.
