A trio of games against Southern League Premier South opposition conclude the Peacocks’ pre-season campaign beginning with the visit of Plymouth Parkway to Wordsworth Drive tomorrow evening (21st July), ko 7.45pm.

Tiverton Town and Swindon Supermarine follow next week but first there is the encounter with the Plymouth side who have enjoyed a rapid ascent in recent years, being a member of the South West Peninsula League as recently as 2018. After being promoted to the Western League they gained promotion to the Southern League for the 2021-22 season which they won at the first attempt, elevating them to the Premier South last season when they finished a very creditable 10th.

Tomorrow will be Parkway’s fourth friendly of the summer, having won 4-0 at Willand Rovers and 3-0 at Falmouth Town which sandwiched a 2-0 home defeat to local big brother Plymouth Argyle. The Peacocks meanwhile suffered their first pre-season defeat on Tuesday when they lost to Exeter City and with the big kick-off just two weeks away the 90 minutes tomorrow against strong opponents will be another step in the right direction.

Head of Football Rob Dray said:” Exeter was a great test and shows us where we are in terms of fitness. We now get another test in Parkway who have done magnificently in recent seasons and who will provide us with another good challenge.”

Ross Stearn and Nick McCootie come back into the reckoning tomorrow, but Nat Jarvis and Dan Ball are still not fully fit while Jay Foulston is not ready to return as he continues his journey towards fitness following last season’s injury.

Last meeting: the only other occasion the sides have met was also a pre-season game on Saturday 30th July 2011. The Peacocks travelled to Bolitho Park and took a two goal lead through Rodney Marsh and Ross MacNab before Andy Sargent pulled one back just before half time. Current Parkway manager Glyn Hobbs equalised and Shane Krac put the Devon side ahead, only for Simon Stone to immediately bring the sides level again. However two further goals from Hobbs secured his hat trick and a 5-3 victory.
