The Peacocks will be seeking to continue their 100% start to the new Southern League season when they entertain Metropolitan Police at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow afternoon (21st August), ko 3.00pm.
A comfortable win at Wimborne on the opening day last Saturday was followed by a much closer affair against Dorchester on Tuesday, Town relying on an injury time penalty miss to ensure a narrow 2-1 victory. The Peacocks will not want such a dramatic finale tomorrow as they look to make it three straight wins to kick off the season for the first time since 2017.
The Police outfit though will provide their usual difficult test, with Town having only beaten them once in five meetings since the first clash in September 2018. They have begun the new campaign with two draws, playing out a goalless 90 minutes with Salisbury last weekend and then gaining a point with a 1-1 result away at Swindon Supermarine in midweek. Their goal was scored by new signing Liam Ferdinand who signed for the Imber Court club over the summer from Binfield where he scored both goals in their FA Vase Final defeat last term to Warrington Rylands. The Blues have also made a number of other acquisitions including defender Charlie Wickham from National League Boreham Wood whilst retaining the likes of dangerous frontman Jack Mazzone.
Head of Football Rob Dray commented:” With a few players back from injury and after a good few days we play the Police who are always a tough ask. Their manager Gav is a good guy and done a great job there. We have to be a lot better than the second half on Tuesday in every aspect but it’s early days and the lads are still acclimatising back to football. There is lots more to come on every level.”
