Welcome back!
Football finally returns to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow evening (13th July) when the Peacocks host Exeter City in a pre-season friendly, kick-off 7.30pm.
Town opened their schedule of warm-up matches last Friday, a Jared Lewington hat trick and Gethyn Hill penalty steering them to a 4-2 win at Clevedon Town, but they will find tomorrow’s League Two outfit a different proposition as they look to sharpen match fitness and team cohesion before the Southern League campaign commences on 14th August. The Grecians began their friendlies with a 2-1 defeat at Weston-super-Mare last week but fielded a stronger side at Tiverton on Friday and emerged 1-0 winners thanks to Ben Seymour’s second half goal.
Exeter have provided regular pre-season opposition in recent seasons, with tomorrow’s meeting being the sixth successive year of the fixture. The Peacocks have done well to draw the last three encounters against strong City sides including a 1-1 draw at their Cliff Hill training ground last year ahead of the 20-21 terminated season, a game which saw Toby Holmes score his first goal in a Taunton shirt. Holmes returns to the Peacocks side tomorrow along with Jack Goodall who both missed the Clevedon match, but skipper Nick Grimes and fellow centre half Jake Wannell sit the game out as they are still isolating due to Covid. Jay Foulston meanwhile starts a week’s trial at Swansea City. Head of Football Rob Dray remarked:” Exeter are always good to us and will bring up a strong side which will be great. After dominating the ball on Friday we won’t have that luxury tomorrow so it will be a good test. It’s also great we are at last at home in front of fans after 250 plus days”.
A reminder that admission is by advance ticket sales only, with no paying on the gate. Tickets can be purchased via our Eventbrite site HERE. Entry is free to Taunton Town Season Ticket holders.
