After their midweek postponement, the Peacocks resume their National League South campaign when they welcome Cheshunt for their first ever visit to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow afternoon (12th November), ko 3.00pm.
Like Town, the Hertfordshire club are newcomers to the National League, having been promoted for this campaign after navigating their way through the Isthmian League Premier Division Play-Offs last season. They finished in 5th place but won away at both Bishop’s Stortford and Hornchurch in the Play-Offs to earn their place at Step 2. As the Peacocks have experienced, it is a different kettle of fish at this level though, with Cheshunt currently sitting in 22nd spot with 12 points from their 17 games played. They are the only team in the division yet to draw a match and having suffered 13 defeats the Ambers will be eager to turn that statistic around tomorrow.
Half of Cheshunt’s victories have come on the road, most recently at Hungerford last month. Two defeats followed that game before they battled back well from two goals down to beat Chippenham Town 3-2 at Theobalds Lane on Tuesday. The Peacocks’ League game that evening against Havant & Waterlooville fell victim to the wet weather so they have had a quieter week in which to recover from their FA Cup exertions at MK Dons last weekend and will be all out to build on their last League fixture when Tonbridge Angels were dispatched 4-1 at the Cygnet, extending Town’s unbeaten home run in League matches to 25 since August 2021. With the Peacocks only being two points outside the relegation zone, a maximum haul tomorrow would be more than welcome.
Head of Football Rob Dray, who has a full squad available to select from, commented:” After last week’s dramatics, it’s important we get back to some good home form. An enforced rest was good in a lot of ways so hopefully the squad are refreshed and raring to go, and home advantage will count against a team around us in the table.”
