The Peacocks face a critical game in the Vanarama National League South when they travel to Welling United tomorrow afternoon (3rd February), ko 3.00pm.
Last weekend’s draw with Aveley constituted Town’s eighth League game without a win to compound a worrying sequence of just one victory in 15 outings since the beginning of October which has seen them sink down the table to their current 20th position. Tomorrow’s opponents sit one place lower, having four fewer points and having played three more games. However, the Wings have started to turn the corner since appointing new manager Rod Stringer who has overseen wins in their last two matches, a 2-1 victory at Hemel Hempstead last Saturday being followed by another three points against Hampton & Richmond by the same scoreline on Tuesday evening. The Kent side will no doubt be looking to make it a hat trick of successive victories when Town visit Park View Road for the second time this season, having lost out in the FA Trophy in November.
Taunton will take some confidence from their last League game with Aveley when they recovered twice from falling behind to gain a deserved point. However, with the gap between themselves and the bottom four diminishing there will be no better time to pick up their second League win on the road tomorrow. Skipper Nick Grimes returns to the squad after missing the last two games with a hamstring complaint while Marcus Day drops out. Head of Football Rob Dray said:” Tomorrow we need to match the intelligence and effort levels we showed against Aveley. Welling are on a high right now but we can match anyone at the moment for effort.”

Last meeting: the Peacocks made a midweek trip to Welling last November in the Isuzu FA Trophy. Kain Adom gave the hosts the lead which was cancelled out by Ross Stearn’s penalty. Tristan Abrahams looked to have won it for the Wings with another penalty five minutes from time, only for Malachi Linton to snatch a leveller at the death to take the tie to a shoot-out which Welling won 8-7.
