The Peacocks are in action in the 1st Round of the Somerset Premier Cup tomorrow evening (3rd October) when they welcome Portishead Town to Wordsworth Drive, ko 7.45pm.
The game gives the squad a break from the stresses and strains of Vanarama National League South duty as they take on a Portishead side who are going great guns so far this season in the Western League First Division. Posset currently sit top of the table, having secured 12 wins from their 15 matches to date and with only one defeat, a 2-1 reverse at Radstock Town in the second game of the campaign. Finding the net hasn’t been a problem either with 47 goals scored and just 11 conceded while they have also progressed through two rounds of the FA Vase so they travel down the M5 in buoyant mood.
The Peacocks have won the Somerset Premier Cup on five previous occasions, most recently in 2017 with a 4-2 win over Weston-super-Mare before losing to the same opposition in the final of 2018-19 which was held over to the start of the following season. The last two years have seen Town fail to progress beyond the 2nd Round.
Head of Football Rob Dray names a full squad for the tie tomorrow with the addition of Rabby Tabu Minzamba and Evander Grubb who have been playing at Willand Rovers and Bristol Manor Farm respectively. The Town boss said:” Momentum is key and we want to keep everyone on point. Tomorrow will give us a chance to give some of the squad game time but it is still crucial to keep our mentality strong and make sure there is no complacency.”
A reminder that admission prices have been reduced for the game. The match is all pay as season tickets are not valid for this competition.
