The Peacocks will be looking to improve their recent run of results when they welcome Dover Athletic to Wordsworth Drive in the Vanarama National League South tomorrow afternoon (13th January), ko 3.00pm.
Although Tuesday saw an improved showing against League leaders Yeovil Town, the 1-0 reverse made it seven defeats from their past eleven games since the Peacocks gained a point at Dover in early October, with just the one victory during that period. There will be no better time for a turnaround in fortunes against a Whites’ side currently bottom of the table with 17 points from 26 games and with only two wins all season. Their only success on the road came in their first away game of the campaign when they edged out Slough Town by a 2-1 margin while they finally got off the mark at the Crabble on Boxing Day when they beat Aveley by the same scoreline.
Athletic’s struggles saw them part company with manager Mitch Brundle last month and he has been superseded by new management team Jake Leberl and Mike Sandmann. There have also been several departures on the playing front, with Johl Powell and Fuad Sessay both leaving recently along with loanees Luke Pearce and goalkeeper David Aziaya who has now been replaced by another loan keeper in the form of Daniel Jinadu from Maidenhead United. Although Dover’s position is not looking very healthy, the Peacocks have also gone through a torrid time off the pitch in the past few weeks but with the squad hopefully now stabilizing and with games in hand available to rise to a safe haven, a three point haul tomorrow would go a long way to getting some smiles back at Wordsworth Drive.
Following his recent arm injury, the Peacocks welcome back Zac Smith to an otherwise unchanged squad from midweek. Head of Football Rob Dray said: “We take a lot of positive things from Tuesday into tomorrow and have a little momentum after good performances from the new lads. There is lots to work on though as the new players and those who haven’t been involved a great deal solidify their place in the new squad.”
