Tonight’s National League South game at home to Weymouth has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. An inspection this morning confirmed the inevitable following further heavy rain which has now totalled 30mm in the past four days, leaving the whole of the Cygnet Health Care Stadium playing surface waterlogged. A revised date for the fixture will be announced in due course.
Chairman Kevin Sturmey commented: “It is so frustrating but there is not much we can do. Our groundsman Rob Hake spent five hours on the pitch with a pedestrian vertidrain yesterday and the holes are now full of water! Even if the fixtures had not been switched and we were at home on Boxing Day, the match would not have gone ahead as the pitch was waterlogged following 12mm of rain on Christmas Day. We will always do our utmost to get a game on but ultimately there has just been too much rain for us to cope with.”
