A Jake Wannell goal just past the hour got the Peacocks back on track as they ground out a 2-1 victory at Salisbury this afternoon.
It was a vitally important win following the end of their long unbeaten run last weekend and stemmed from an improved showing in the second half after a pretty tame affair from both sides in the opening 45 minutes, Town coming the closest to scoring when Jared Lewington drilled a shot against the post just before the break. The Peacocks broke the deadlock after 56 minutes when Wannell glanced a Lloyd James free kick off the upright, the ball rebounding back into the net off Salisbury’s Josh Fawole. The hosts drew level two minutes later when Antonio Diaz was adjudged to have been brought down and Charlie Davis drove home from the penalty spot but Town responded again, with Wannell grabbing what proved to be the decisive goal on 63 minutes when he headed home at the far post from a James corner. The result keeps the Peacocks in 4th spot but with two of the three sides above them losing today the picture has improved further.
