Town eased to their second pre-season win after they beat a Plymouth Argyle XI 5-0 at the Viridor Stadium yesterday evening (24th July).
The Peacocks were ahead after just three minutes when skipper Matt Wright volleyed home before summer signing Andrew Neal added a quick brace, a chipped shot and a calm finish extending the lead to three well within the half hour. Ben Adelsbury headed home a Ryan Brett free kick after 52 minutes before substitute Alpha Sow netted a final goal with two minutes remaining.
Reaction | Taunton Town coach Rob Dray commented, “It was an excellent performance and even though it’s pre-season the ethos of winning is always at the front of our minds. Sometimes that takes over philosophy of play, sometimes it doesn’t, but for me it’s about winning and there are 100 ways to play the game. Our fitness levels against young professionals were superb and with the agreement we have with our partners Bridgwater and Taunton College, our new gps vests show us some great stats and important info – another tool for us to use !! The attitude to hard work has been superb and we are another game into where we want to be this season. Special mention to Rocky on his home debut who looked likes he’s played for us for years and that’s where we are with the squad at the moment, evolution not revolution.”
