The Peacocks will be all out to break their home duck in the Southern League Premier South this season when they welcome Marlow to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow (21st September), ko 3.00pm.
It’s now six competitive games unbeaten for Taunton since their single goal defeat to Hungerford in mid-August and whilst it’s two wins from two in the FA Cup, the target will be to start turning draws into victories in the Southern League where their three League home games so far have all ended with a point apiece.
As for tomorrow’s opponents, Marlow were promoted to the Premier this season following their win in the Isthmian League South Central Division play-offs last term after finishing as runners-up to champions Chertsey Town. However, the Blues’ start in the Premier has been difficult, with their first seven games yielding just two points which sees them occupy bottom spot in the table. They will have taken heart from their last outing though when they scored twice in the dying minutes to salvage a 2-2 home draw with Bracknell, ending a run of five successive defeats.
The Peacocks’ squad shows two changes from last weekend’s FA Cup success at Poole Town, with the cup-tied Jayden Nielsen returning and defender Reece Hedges being recalled from his loan at Cribbs while Archie Ferris begins a three game suspension for his red card at Plymouth Parkway.
Taunton manager Richard Luffman said:” Although we’re playing a side at the bottom of the table they’ve had a really good comeback draw against Bracknell in their last one out. We’ve watched their last two or three games and they’ve been really unfortunate to not get better results so you know the league table doesn’t always lie come the end of the season, but it can do early on and we think Marlow are a good side and are going to be a tough team to beat tomorrow. We’ve had a solid week of training though and we’re looking forward to a massive week with three home games. We’ve got two big league games against teams in and around us and then a huge FA Cup tie so we’re hoping to get three really good attendances and some positive results along the way to try and progress higher up the table and into the 4th qualifying round.”
