The Peacocks’ Emirates FA Cup journey is over for another season after they lost 3-0 at Maidenhead United in yesterday evenings’ 4th Round Qualifying replay.
The scoreline doesn’t truly reflect the game after Town battled back into the contest after conceding early doors, Reece Smith playing Toby Sho-Silva through to slot past Adam Parkes after just four minutes. The hosts had a great chance to double their lead after 18 minutes when Ollie Woodhouse was adjudged to have fouled Will De Havilland, but Parkes pulled off a terrific diving save to deny Shawn McCoulsky from the penalty spot.
Tom Smith came close for the visitors just before the break when his free kick flew inches wide, and the Peacocks continued to press in the second half, Smith seeing his strike saved by Craig Ross. However they couldn’t find a way through and after McCoulsky had hit the post in the final minute, the Magpies scored twice during stoppage time to give the result a flattering look. Ruben Carvalho steered home Smith’s cross at the near post before Sam Barratt’s shot took a deflection to deceive Parkes to end Taunton’s unbeaten run off 11 games and secure a home tie for Maidenhead in the 1st Round Proper against Crawley Town in just over two weeks’ time.
