The Peacocks progressed to the Quarter Final of the Somerset Premier Cup with a 2-0 win over Bath City at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium this evening (5th February).
The result was more comfortable than the scoreline suggests, with Town passing by various opportunities against a young City side. Luke Spokes hit the post early on before the Peacocks took the lead after 16 minutes when Spokes teed up Jamie Short to fire home. Spokes was again the provider on 26 minutes, playing Dan Sullivan through to drill past Harvey Wiles-Richards for Town’s second. Despite creating plenty more chances Town could not add to their tally in the second half, with Wiles-Richards making several more saves and both Matt Wright and Ryan Brett hitting the post. City’s cause was also not helped when they had Shaquille Perkins dismissed after 68 minutes following an altercation with Owen Irish. The Peacocks now travel to Weston-super-Mare in the next round.
Head of Football Rob Dray said:” Last night ticked a lot of boxes for us and gave valuable game time for some of the lads. Although Bath brought a weakened side we played the game in the right manner and it is good to get into the Quarter Finals.”
