The Peacocks returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Stains Town yesterday afternoon (22 Dec).

Matt Wright opened the scoring on 12 minutes after good work from Rocky Neal down the left hand side. Neal’s cross picked out Town’s skipper unmarked in the area who coolly headed past the keeper.

Ollie Chamberlain doubled the lead with 22 minutes on the clock as he riffled a shot from 20 yards leaving Louis Dixon to pick the ball out of the net for the second time in the opening half.

Craig Veal wrapped up the points with 8 minutes remaining to get Town’s 3rd of the afternoon and the points were set to return to Somerset. Lloyd Irish’s hopes of a clean sheet before he departs to Australia for 3 weeks were dashed as Finley Tapp grabbed a conciliation goal 3 minutes into injury time.

Commenting on his sides victory Rob Dray said, “It’s fantastic to get another away win and I thought we played some fantastic stuff in the first half.  We were impossible to live with at times, the players replied to last week in the best way which is what they do.

Being top at Christmas is a fantastic achievement for a newly promoted club but we’ve won nothing yet. We will keep grinding away the results and that starts with Boxing Day. The league table has no bearing at all for the match and it will be another big game for us but confidence is high and as always we will have a go”.
