Ross Stearn’s goal deep into added time clinched a terrific 3-2 victory for the Peacocks over St Albans City in the Vanarama National League South this afternoon.
The deserved win maintains Town’s 100% home record this season and sees them up to the heady heights of 5th in the early League table. Town broke the deadlock with the first goal on 14 minutes, keeper Michael Johnson failing to hold a Lee Lucas corner and Stearn was there to drill into the net. Despite being on top, the home side were pegged back just past the half hour when the Town defence were caught out as Giorgio Rasulo ran clear to slot past Dan Lavercombe for the equaliser. The Peacocks though regained the lead two minutes before the break, Dylan Morgan’s low centre being steered home by skipper Nick Grimes. Sloppy defending allowed Mitchell Weiss to fire home to bring the sides level again after 53 minutes but the Peacocks were not to be denied as Dave Sims-Burgess squared the ball across and Stearn neatly flicked it beyond Johnson into the corner to spark celebrations eight minutes into stoppage time.
