With Weymouth and Salisbury both involved in FA Trophy action this week the Peacocks where able to take advantage and extend their lead at the top of the table to 7 points with a 2-1 victory over Beaconsfield Town yesterday evening (9 Jan).
In a game of two halves the Peacocks dominated the first half creating numerous goal scoring opportunities and by the time the opening 45 minutes came to a close, the Peacocks found themselves with a two goal cushion thanks to a brace from Rocky Neal to take his tally to 25 goals for the season.
The second half was a complete role reversal as the Rams pegged Town back within seconds of the restart through Charlie Losasso who finished a fine move from the visitors. Taunton had to sustain heavy pressure throughout the second half but the league leaders held on to claim their first victory of 2019 and maintain their unbeaten home record.
Town were due to visit Salisbury on Saturday (12 Jan) which has been postponed due their FA Trophy victory on Tuesday evening. The Peacocks now have a 10 day break before their next match at home to Gosport Borough (19 Jan).
Immediately after the game Rob Dray commented, “The important part was the scoreline after 6 games in 19 days. We weren’t at our best and there’s one or two things that need work. The players have been superb, we’ve come through a tough run of games and have a number of players back from injury whilst still at the top of the league. The break comes at a great time for us.”
