The Peacocks bring their memorable 2017-18 season to an end when they entertain Beaconsfield Town in the Southern League Championship match tomorrow afternoon (5th May), kick-off 3.00pm.
The annual contest is held between the winners of the West and East Division, with home advantage going to the club with the best points tally which Town comfortably had by a margin of eleven points. Whereas the Peacocks secured their title four weeks ago, Beaconsfield only clinched the East Division crown on the final day of the league season last weekend with victory at Marlow, winning the title by a single point from runners-up AFC Rushden & Diamonds. This will be the Rams second visit of the campaign to the Viridor Stadium, having ventured west for a Buildbase FA Trophy tie in November which finished all square after the visitors equalised two minutes from time to cancel out an earlier goal from Dan Sullivan. The Peacocks went on to win the replay after a penalty shoot-out which ended 7-6 in their favour.
Beaconsfield’s league record on the road was highly impressive this season, with 18 victories from 21 games and only two defeats. They will again provide stiff opposition then for Town who look to conclude their season with another win to stretch their unbeaten run in all competitions to 24 matches.
Apart from the injured Pierce Mitchell, the Peacocks name a full strength squad.
Manager Leigh Robinson commented: “It’s a new fixture for us and despite being champions and having the privilege of playing in it, the way the game is set up financially by the league is nothing short of ridiculous, meaning both clubs will probably make a loss on the day which isn’t how a celebration match should be. However, we have the honour of playing at home and hopefully we can put in a performance and sign off a wonderful season with more silverware.”
