Taunton Town travel to Wales to face Merthyr Town at Penydarren Park on New Year’s Day, KO: 3pm.
The Peacocks ended the 2018 leading the way at the top of the table by 7 points and impressively earnt an undefeated league record at the Viridor Stadium during the calendar year.
Rob Dray will be looking for his side to kick off the New Year with victory to continue the Peacock’s promotion push and will have Ed Palmer back for selection after missing Town’s six goal thriller with Weymouth at the weekend. Harry Gardner will not travel with the squad after securing a professional contract with Spanish side CF Intercity and we wish him well for the future.
The Martyrs sit 2 points off a play-off spot after losing 3-0 at the hands of Swindon Supermarine in their last match and will no doubt be looking to rejuvenate their league campaign having suffered 3 defeats in their last six league outings, picking up 7 points from the 18 available.
Looking forward to tomorrow’s game Head of Football Rob Dray remarked, “To make our last two results have some parity over the Christmas period, it’s important we go to Merthyr and get another positive result against another side with Play-Off hopes. It will be another tough test for us, they have a different surface but something we need to deal with. We have proved we have a strong squad and this is where it kicks in going into January.”
