The Peacocks begin a busy Bank Holiday weekend with the visit of Hendon to the Viridor Stadium tomorrow afternoon (25th August), kick-off 3.00pm.
Town have made a respectable start to life in the Premier Division, a comfortable opening day win over Staines and a first away victory of the season at Kings Langley last weekend sandwiching an unfortunate last minute defeat at Weymouth. These early results have put the Peacocks in 7th spot in the newly developing table but they will find tomorrow’s visitors no easy ride. The Dons are unbeaten in their first three fixtures and lie in 4th, two home wins over Walton Casuals and Farnborough following a draw at Frome to start their campaign. The Peacocks will be focused on getting a positive result tomorrow though to put them in a confident mood ahead of Bank Holiday Monday’s derby at Tiverton.
The London club are newcomers to the Southern League this season following the summer reshuffle which brought to an end their 45 year tenure in the Isthmian League. They have led somewhat of a nomadic existence after leaving their long time Claremont Road home ten years ago. Since then they have groundshared at four other clubs and now play at Silver Jubilee Park in Kingsbury along with Edgware Town. Despite Hendon’s location in the London area, the Peacocks have met them before, most famously back in January 1982 when Town lost 5-1 in an FA Trophy 1st Round Proper tie played on the artificial pitch at Queens Park Rangers. The two sides also met again in the FA Trophy on 27 November 2004, Hendon running out 3-0 winners at the Viridor Stadium.
The squad for tomorrow’s match is unchanged from last weekend’s outing to Kings Langley with international clearance frustratingly still not through for Douglas Camilo.
Manager Leigh Robinson said: “It’s another pretty unknown opponent tomorrow. They’ve obviously had a decent start so we’re expecting a tough game of course but the lads are looking forward to returning to action at home and hopefully we can put in a good performance.”
