It proved a day to forget for Town as they were thrashed 6-0 at St Albans City in the Vanarama National League South this afternoon.
The die was cast as early as the 4th minute when Shaun Jeffers clipped the ball past Dan Lavercombe for the opener, with the referee overruling an assistant’s offside flag. Jeffers doubled the lead on the quarter hour with a close range finish from Jack James’ cross before Zane Banton’s shot took a deflection to find the far corner a minute before the break.
The hosts remained totally in control in the second half, eventually grabbing a fourth on 69 minutes when Jeffers secured his hat trick with a penalty after Cameron Evans had brought down George Hoddle. Dan Ball turned Ibby Akanbi’s cross into his own net three minutes from time and Akanbi slotted home a minute later to round off the rout and leave an outclassed Peacocks licking their wounds and deep in trouble near the bottom.
