The Peacocks kept themselves firmly entrenched in the Southern League promotion race with a crucial 3-1 victory over fellow hopefuls Chesham United at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium this afternoon. The visitors will consider themselves unfortunate not to claim something from the game after they looked the better side for large parts, but it is all about results at this stage of the campaign. Ben Adelsbury gave the hosts the lead after 17 minutes when he headed home from a Lloyd James free kick, but the Generals were level a minute later, Bradley Clayton steering home a Lewis Rolfe cross. Town regained the lead on 64 minutes when Adelsbury notched his second goal of the afternoon after his header was adjudged to have crossed the line following a Jay Foulston corner which had been returned into the box by Zac Smith. Chesham piled on the pressure in the closing stages but following a late corner which keeper Sam Beasant came up for, Town broke away through Harry Warwick and he found Ross Stearn in the middle who sidestepped a defender to fire into an empty net to seal victory and lift Town up to third spot as the race for the title hots up further.
